colorFabb Light Weight Temperature Resistance PLA ("PLA-LW-HT") is a high quality expanding PLA 3D printing filament that is based on colorFabb's unique easy to print PLA/PHA blend. Thin structures printed with colorFabb PLA-LW-HT will be able to handle heat from external sources such as the sun much better and prolong the exposure time until failure. colorFabb PLA-LW-HT) is the best filament for printing RC Planes, Cosplay and other light weight items! Parts are light, yet retain good strength and are easy to cut, trim and sand.

colorFabb PLA-LW-H uses an active foaming technology which is triggered by temperature when printing. At it's peak, colorFabb PLA-LW-HT will expand during extrusion to nearly 2.25 times (2.25X) its filament volume. This means that users can decrease flow by up to 55% to obtain light weight parts (or use the expanding properties to speed up print time by using big layer heights or single extra thick perimeters). The most common approach is to work with a fixed nozzle size and layer height and then vary the temperature, speed and flow rate to obtain the desired expansion rate and consequent weight reduction. For printing thin structures such as RC Plane parts, colorFabb recommends printing the first layer at 100% flow using 200C printing temperature. Then increase the temperature for the second layer (to around 235C) to activate the foaming and reduce flow to 50-60% with a print speed of ~40mm/s.

colorFabb PLA-LW-HT is available in various colors including white and silver. The foaming expansion of the extruded filament results in printed parts that have a rough matte-like finish which looks good and paints very well!
